As people, we remain individuals right until the end regardless if we lose our memory and our close ones feel as if we are fading away from this world. This term of fading away isn’t true. We have the possibility to interact with other people even under these conditions and it gives us the potential for meaningful experiences. Experiences that make us human.
Who should hear this?
Everyone should hear my speech – we’re all going to grow old. Everyone should know that there are choices. There is a possibility to live with an illness that has no cure.
Memory disease is modern day cancer. There is medication to help relieve the symptoms, yet everyone who receives a diagnosis knows they will die within the next 10–15 years. The medical industry is constantly trying to find a treatment, but no cure has been found. Symptoms can be relieved but as far as I know, no one has been cured.
Why do you want to share your idea with others?
I do this work every week and see how meaningful it is to the clients and their relatives. I feel like I have to share this with others than who I work with on a weekly basis. Everyone should know that people suffering from a memory disease have the right and the possibility to lead a meaningful life.
My passion is to enable people to understand themselves, each other, and the world surrounding them using images and words. I am an optimist by nature. I trust people. I believe in the possibility of change. I am an inspirer, an encourager, and a critic.
